A Yearly Classic: The State Fair of Texas
With the state fair coming down to it’s final days I thought there wasn’t a better classical event Dallas had to offer that I could blog about. The yearly void of fried anything, rides, and games that only the Texas state fair fills comes around once a year, starting September 23rd and ending on October 23rd which gives you exactly one month to enjoy fair festivities to the fullest. Don’t miss out on the promotional deals including bringing Dr. Pepper or Coca Cola products after 5 pm to receive your ticket at half price. Also remember to check the website, bigtex.con for updates and deals!
Walking into the fair is like watching a cinematic masterpiece, you feel like a character in a chick flick ready to enjoy the day with her friends while being surrounded by neon lights, food stands, rides, and tons of games. It could also feel like you’re in a romantic scene if you are with your partner who is trying to win you a huge teddy bear prize. The atmosphere is something else, it’s buzzing with excitement and youth. There are little stands scattered everywhere so make sure you wear comfortable shoes because you’re more than likely to be on your feet all day. Famous food such as fried oreos, funnel cakes, cake balls, fried cookie dough, cotton candy, and award winning smoked turkey legs are calling your name. I’m sure your diet will make an exception for one day filled of indulgence in state fair foods. Bring your own water if you can because drinks can get pricey, especially for water bottles.
Transportation and parking to the fair can be tricky due to it’s densely packed nature of families and people frantically trying to park and cross the street to reach the fair. I would recommend parking at the provided indoor state fair parking which is priced at $15 rather than the neighboring business which charge $20 and don’t ensure safety or liability parking. If you’re not up to driving to the fair you can always ride the Dallas Dart train which is $10 or Uber. Lines for rides, games, and food can be long, but if you get there at the right time with the right attitude you can do everything you want and more by the end of the day. Often we hear about a crime committed at the fair but don’t let this discourage you from the experience. Please stay safe and aware of your surrounding if you’re planning on going.
